Sogetsu Ikebana Exhibit: The Legacy of Mary Sugiyama

Ikebana students from throughout the United States and Japan return to the United States National  Arboretum in Washington,DC for this annual tribute to their teacher, the late Mary Sugiyama. The exhibit features the sogetsu school of ikebana, a style which is based in tradition but encourages free-form use of materials and forms. Attend a free ikebana demonstration Sunday, June 20 at 1:00 pm. Free.

Ikebana

Here are more pictures that I did last week. I really love all of them, but the one above is my favorite. The sweet japanese tea bowl was found in an antique store, exposed outdoors to the elements with other pieces that were stacked on shelves. Most of the other pieces were low end ceramics and cheap floral glass/containers relegated to the junk pile. This great piece with a personal stamp in the clay cost me only $4, but to me it is priceless.
